Dao Universe

Master Jianfeng Chen is a Tai Chi teacher and the host of the Dao Universe China Experience 2027, bringing students together for an immersive journey through practice, culture, and meaningful exchange.

Throughout the experience, Master Chen will guide participants through Tai Chi practice and workshops while creating opportunities to learn alongside experienced masters and local martial arts communities in Beijing and Fujian.

The journey reflects the spirit of Dao Universe: not simply observing these traditions from the outside, but experiencing them through movement, shared practice, conversation, and connection with the people and places that keep them alive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful details to make planning your China experience a little easier.

Can I choose a different meal when meals are included?

Included meals are pre-arranged for the group, such as hotel breakfasts or scheduled lunches and dinners. If you prefer a different meal outside the included option, it will be at your own expense.

What if I have food or other allergies?

Simple food modifications may be requested, but cannot be guaranteed. Local businesses may not always be able to accommodate specific allergies.

Any additional arrangements or costs are the participant’s responsibility, and participants are responsible for managing their own allergy-related needs and risks.

What language are the tours, workshops, and training conducted in?

Major tours will be conducted in English, with some Mandarin Chinese support. Translation from Mandarin to English will also be provided for selected cultural experiences, training sessions, and interactions with local masters and martial arts groups.

What level of health and physical fitness is needed?

A basic level of cardiovascular fitness and mobility is recommended. Some sightseeing days may include approximately 3–4 miles of walking, stairs, and uneven surfaces.

The Great Wall includes cobblestones and large stone steps, although some areas offer cable cars or chair lifts. Training and workshops should always be modified to suit your individual abilities.

Can I skip part of the itinerary or receive a discount?

You may choose not to participate in a scheduled activity, but any alternative arrangements, expenses, and associated risks are your responsibility.

There are no discounts or refunds for itinerary activities you choose not to attend.

How should I pay for souvenirs and other personal expenses?

It is helpful to carry some local currency (RMB), since some businesses may not accept credit cards.

WeChat is also widely used in China and may allow you to link a credit card for payments. Participants should research and choose the payment methods that work best for them.

What is the difference between single, shared, and family room pricing?

Single-room pricing is for one participant occupying a room alone.

Shared-room pricing means you will share a double room with another participant. Roommate preferences may be submitted through the registration form after payment.

Family pricing allows family members to room together.

Are gratuities recommended?

Yes. Suggested gratuities are approximately $100–$150 USD or more if you choose, for master trainers, tour bus operators, translators, and performers.

You may also wish to tip hotel concierge staff if you use their services.

Are there discounts for children or seniors?

No. There are no additional child or senior discounts. Pricing is based on the rates listed for each experience package.

Do I need a passport and visa to enter China?

Yes. You need a valid passport with more than six months remaining before expiration.

Visa requirements depend on the nationality of your passport, so please check with your local Chinese embassy or consulate. Additional entry forms, such as an arrival card, may also be required.

Visa applications should generally be started at least three months in advance. If your application requires a Letter of Invitation, one will be provided.

Passport, visa, entry application, and related fees are the responsibility of each participant.
